About Me

Grownup backpacking holidays

I might be older these days, but I still love backpacking. I'm not the only one - I've noticed that hostels aren't calling them youth hostels and have been calling them backpacking hostels instead. I like being able to meet people at the hostel. Some of the best experiences I've had when travelling have been meeting people just like me and going off on crazy unexpected adventures in new cities. Growing up doesn't need to mean getting boring. If you are a bit older these days but still like to stay in dormitories and have backpacking holidays, you are going to love my site.

5 Ways to Save on the Cost of a Motel During Your Next Vacation

Saving on a motel, such as Welcome Inn 277, during vacation is not as difficult as you might imagine, but often travelers overlook some simple options for getting cheaper rates when making a reservation. Booking online through a discount site is a good choice, but not the only way to save when traveling. Note a few ways you can save on the cost of a motel during your next vacation.

1. Use your membership

If you're a student or member of an organization like AAA, you may be entitled to discounts when traveling. Very often students and those who belong to civic organizations forget that their memberships give them discounts on motels as well as airline tickets, car rental costs, and at restaurants. If you don't see this advertised on a website, speak up and ask if you're entitled to a discount.

2. Use coupons

Coupon books often have discounts for local motels and you can also find these online. Don't overlook coupon websites as they often include more than just coupons for groceries; you may find coupons for motels and other lodging options at these sites. They can save you a certain percentage of your bill or may offer cheap upgrades.

3. Check what's included

Don't assume a motel is cheaper simply because it's rundown, as it may offer a lower price because it doesn't have as many features and amenities. You may pay more for a hotel that includes a pool, spa, and workout room, but if you're not going to be using any of those on your vacation, choose a more affordable location without those luxuries.

4. Look for a motel credit card

If you charge purchases anyway, a motel credit card can offer you points that can be applied to your next reservation. These points can give you a discounted rate, or can allow you to cheaply upgrade to a better room. Some even offer free nights at a hotel after a certain number of points are collected.

5. Join a rewards program

You probably don't think twice about belonging to a rewards program for the local grocery store so that you can save money on groceries each time you shop, but may have overlooked this same type of rewards program that is often offered by motels. You can get discounts on rooms each time you book or may be offered those discounts after a certain number of stays at their location.
